Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Finance Manager (Operational Accounting) to oversee the day-to-day finance operations of a complex and evolving organisation. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information, robust governance, and continuous improvement across all core accounting functions.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Finance Management

  • Lead and manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and financial accounting functions
  • Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of month-end and year-end close processes
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, journals, provisions, and intercompany transactions
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and internal policies
  • Deliver accurate and timely head office, statutory, and management reports
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance operations
  • Oversee credit control, reconciliations, and debt recovery processes
  • Manage treasury activities, including cash flow and banking relationships

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

  • Support the annual OPEX budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
  • Deliver robust monthly variance analysis and actionable insights
  • Lead cash flow forecasting and working capital management
  • Develop, monitor, and enhance financial KPIs and performance dashboards

Compliance, Tax & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with ATO obligations, including GST, BAS, PAYG, FBT, and payroll tax
  • Oversee tax reporting and statutory lodgements
  • Lead internal and external audit processes
  • Act as the primary liaison for auditors, advisors, and regulatory bodies

Risk & Controls

  • Maintain and strengthen internal control frameworks and financial governance
  • Identify financial and operational risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
  • Safeguard the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of financial reporting

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee finance systems, ensuring data integrity and optimal utilisation
  • Drive automation, system enhancements, and process optimisation initiatives
  • Manage banking relationships and cash flow processes

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team
  • Establish clear KPIs, conduct performance evaluations, and support professional development
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide strategic financial insights and advice to senior leadership
  • Partner with business units to support budgeting, forecasting, and operational initiatives
  • Support business cases, cost optimisation, and commercial decision-making

 

About You

  • CPA or CA qualification is essential
  • Minimum 10 years’ professional accounting experience within Australia
  • Strong hands-on expertise across AP, AR, General Ledger, reconciliations, and close processes
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an Australian institution
