Job Description

This is a hands-on, high-impact generalist role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, solving practical people problems, and keeping the fundamentals running well in a fast-paced environment.

MG Motor Australia is looking for a Senior People & Talent Advisor to support the full employee lifecycle, manage a broad range of employee relations matters, manage recruitment and help strengthen our people operations as the business continues to evolve.

Reporting to the General Manager, People & Business Services, you will be a trusted day-to-day point of contact for managers and employees. As part of a close-knit People & Talent team, you will move confidently between advisory work and administrative detail, from managing ER matters and coaching managers through to preparing letters, maintaining employee records, coordinating recruitment steps, updating policies and producing HR reporting.

What you will do

  • Manage core HR operations across the employee lifecycle, including employment contracts, variations, onboarding, probation, internal movements, exits, records and HR process documentation.
  • Provide practical advice to managers and employees on HR policies, performance, conduct, grievances, absence, probation and other employee relations matters.
  • Manage end-to-end ER case management across matters such as performance, conduct, grievances, absence, probation and workplace conflict, including case assessment, manager coaching, documentation, meetings, outcome letters and follow-up actions.
  • Manage talent acquisition activity for assigned roles, including role briefings, sourcing support, screening, interview coordination, candidate communication, offer management and onboarding handover.
  • Develop and implement practical employee engagement initiatives that strengthen employee experience, morale and connection across the business.
  • Maintain and improve HR policies, templates, manager guides and practical processes that help the business operate consistently and fairly.
  • Prepare regular HR reporting for local management and HQ stakeholders, including headcount, turnover, recruitment, probation, leave and ER case metrics.
  • From time to time, support broader People & Business Services priorities as required, including administration projects, office coordination and external advisor liaison.

What you will bring

  • Solid HR generalist experience, ideally at Senior HR Advisor, People Advisor, HR Generalist or early HR Business Partner level.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple types of ER cases, including performance management, misconduct, grievances, absence management, probation matters and termination support.
  • Sound working knowledge of Australian employment law, Fair Work, NES and Modern Awards, with judgement to manage routine ER matters independently and escalate complex, high-risk, IR-sensitive or legally sensitive matters when required.
  • Strong HR operations discipline, including accurate documentation, records, reporting, contracts, letters, policies and process follow-through.
  • Proven recruitment experience and confidence partnering with hiring managers.
  • A hands-on mindset and willingness to handle both advisory work and administrative detail.
  • High resilience, discretion and sound judgement when working with sensitive people matters.
  • Experience in a start-up, scale-up, automotive, consumer goods/FMCG or other fast-paced environment will be highly regarded.

What will help you succeed

  • You can work through ambiguity without waiting for perfect information.
  • You are calm under pressure and can manage changing priorities without losing the detail.
  • You are practical, commercially aware and comfortable giving clear advice to managers.
  • You enjoy building structure, but you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves when the work needs doing.
  • You communicate clearly, keep confidences, and know how to balance empathy with accountability.

This role is suited to someone who wants ownership, variety and genuine exposure to the business. You will be close to decision-making, trusted with meaningful work, and expected to help lift the quality and consistency of our people practices. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please apply. We would love to hear from you!
