About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business & Finance Controller to be the financial and operational backbone of our dealership. This is a hands-on, senior role where your expertise will ensure the dealership runs smoothly, profitably, and compliantly. You will provide leadership with accurate financial insights, operational control, and practical solutions across finance, administration, and dealership operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, timely financial records with exceptional attention to detail
- Prepare monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and KPIs
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis across all departments
- Monitor dealership profitability and cost control continuously
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end close processes
Compliance, Governance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax obligations, OEM requirements, and internal controls
- Oversee GST, payroll tax, superannuation, and statutory reporting
- Maintain strong financial controls to minimise risk and errors
- Coordinate external audits and liaise with accountants, auditors, banks, and OEMs
Operational & Administrative Oversight
- Oversee administration and operational finance tasks to keep daily operations running smoothly
- Support and troubleshoot issues across Sales, F&I, Service, and Parts
- Monitor vehicle stock control, floorplan funding, reconciliations, and stock ageing
- Manage stocktakes, vehicle registers, commissions, incentives, rebates, and manufacturer claims
- Ensure policies, procedures, systems, and workflows are followed and continuously improved
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a clear, confident, and professional communicator at all levels
- Translate complex financial data into actionable guidance for non-financial managers
- Work closely with Dealer Principal, department managers, OEMs, financiers, and external partners
Team Support & Leadership
- Set standards for accuracy, accountability, and professionalism
- Drive a culture of ownership, structure, and continuous improvement
- Support workload management to ensure the dealership operates effectively
Strategic & Commercial Support
- Provide financial insights to support leadership decision-making
- Assist with pricing strategy, margin improvement, and cost optimisation
- Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis for growth initiatives
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in automotive dealership finance or controller roles
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong control mindset
- Solid understanding of dealership operations and workflows
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain smooth operations
Desirable
- CPA / CA qualified (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with dealership management systems (ERP, Titan, etc.)
- OEM reporting and franchise compliance experience
